For the past year, progressives, elites in the two major political parties, and smear jockeys in the media have attempted to destroy first the candidacy of Donald Trump and then the presidency of Donald Trump. Their barrage of riots, threats, leaks, fake news, and lies pound away daily at the president, his staff, and his supporters. Unable to accept the results of the election of 2016, these combined forces have sought these many months to bring down the president, indifferent to the havoc their efforts are wreaking on the country.
People who voted for Donald Trump, whom Hilary Clinton famously called “Deplorables,” are neither stupid nor unaware of the collusion between the press and the enemies of Trump. They know that from Day One of the election the hit on Trump was on. They know that the far left, the mainstream media, and a majority of politicians, Republicans and Democrats, have since January done all within their power to smear Trump and his associates. They know that the final goal is to destroy this president by any means possible.
In a Harvard-Harris poll conducted in June, 2017, the poll asked respondents: “Do you think there exists a campaign to delegitimize President Trump and his administration or not?” 62 percent answered “yes,” including “87 percent of Republicans, 63 percent of independents” and even “40 percent of Democrats. ”http://www.breitbart.com/big-government/2017/06/27/harvard-poll-two-thirds-believe-campaign-to-delegitimize-trump/
Now, it appears, even some on the Left have become sick of these shameless attacks. On July 12 at snopes.com, Dan MacGuill methodically lists what he calls “the lies of Donald Trump’s critics,” lies ranging from Trump’s supposed intention of canceling Meals-On-Wheels to removing LGBT categories from the 2020 Census. McGuill’s in-depth analysis refutes charge after charge against Trump, in the end forcing readers to see the absurdity of these "Trumped-up" accusations.

Three days later, five-time Emmy Award winner and investigative journalist Sheryl Attkisson, author of The Smear: How Shady Political Operatives and Fake News Control What You See, What You Think, and How You Vote talked to The Daily Caller about the miserable state of our press. Describing what she calls “transactional journalism,” which is “reporters making inappropriate deals with the people they are reporting on,” Attkisson singles out papers like the New York Times and the Washington Post for their biased reporting. http://dailycaller.com/2017/07/15/news-orgs-keep-trying-to-take-down-trump-but-hes-kryptonite-to-the-smear-video/
Progressives and the media continue to choose smear tactics over debate, hatred and division over real dialogue, and opinions over facts. In special elections in the past year, the Democrats have gone 0 for 5. Until they change their ways, until they wake up and realize that voters prefer substance over mudslinging, that trend will probably continue.
